SUMMER CAMP
Explore the Zoo, experience nature, and discover the excitement and wonder of animals! Hikes in the Zoo, visits from Animal Friends, crafts, train rides, animal shows, and so much more make Summer Camp a jam packed week to remember!

Please register children according to the grade they will enter in the fall.

Full Day Camps: 9:00am-4:00pm. Please pack a lunch. Topic is the same each week.

Half Day Camps: 9:30am-12:00 noon, 1:00pm-3:30pm. Two topics alternate weekly. No Before or After Care available.

A bird that can fly at speeds of 200mph? A cat that can leap 12 feet into the air? Animals can be out of this world when it comes to their super adaptations. Come to summer camp and discover these animals and their incredible super-powers. 3rd-4th Grade: ZSI-Zoo Scene Investigation

Footprints... teeth marks... broken branches... and scat??? What can these clues tell us about the biology of wildlife and the events that occurred at the scene? Discover ways to study the evidence that animals leave behind as well as learn about ways that Zoo professionals are using science to help conserve wildlife.

3rd-4th Grade: Leaders of the Pack

During this week-long adventure, campers will discover animal leaders of all kinds, from keystone species to alpha males and females! After getting acquainted with animals leaders, campers will meet some leaders in conservation here at the Cincinnati Zoo! By the end of the week, campers will have the opportunity to become leaders in conservation themselves!

5th-6th Grade: Exploring Enrichment

What do boomer balls, spices, and fish-sicles all have in common? They are different forms of animal enrichment! Enrichment provides stimulation to our Zoo animals keeping their minds and bodies healthy. Animal enrichment provides stimulation to our Zoo animals and serves as an important tool that keeps their minds and bodies healthy. In this camp, we will learn about the different forms of animal enrichment, who and what they are good for, and the role of the Zoo's enrichment committee in all of this through animal encounters, keeper interactions, games, and other activities. We will even get a chance to participate in the creation of some animal enrichment items and brainstorm some new enrichment ideas to present to the enrichment committee.

This full day camp is for children entering 5th or 6th grade in the fall.

5th-6th Grade: Nature Navigators

What's that tree? That bird? That insect? Who made that nest? That call? That...scat? What wildlife, big and small, can be found in my own backyard and how can I be their habitat hero? This camp will explore the tools, behaviors, and knowledge it takes to be a naturalist. Through hikes, animals encounters, and hands-on investigations at the Zoo, participants will learn the skills they need to explore the wilds of their own backyard, schoolyard, and beyond while becoming stellar stewards for the wildlife that lives there.

This half day camp is for children entering the 5th or 6th grade in the fall.

5th-6th Grade: Operation Conservation

This program will explore the ins and outs of wildlife conservation. Through animal encounters, hikes, and other activities, we'll learn about real-life conservation efforts taking place at the Zoo, some of the tools researchers use to keep track of wild populations of species, and what we can do to help the wildlife in our own backyard.

This half day camp is for children entering the 5th or 6th grade in the fall.

7th-8th Grade: Working With Wildlife

Animal keepers, field researchers, animal trainers...the list goes on and on when it comes to jobs that work with wildlife. We'll meet some people who work with wildlife, some of the critters they work with, and tour some behind-the-scenes areas that help them do their job. This is a hands-on class, so be prepared to get knee or elbow-deep in exploration of some of the jobs and tools of the trade that come with a wildlife-related career! Participants will even get the opportunity to write and record animal-related podcasts that might be selected to be on the Zoo's website!

This full day camp is for children entering 7th or 8th grade in the fall.

ZOO TROOP
Learning and growing is fun at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden! These 4 week series encourages the development of important skills and values that will allow your child to interact with peers while fostering knowledge and respect for wildlife and wild places. Through age appropriate, skill and wonder-building hands-on activities, close encounters with animals, Zoo hikes, and child-led projects, children learn biological concepts and become curious to explore the world around them and find their own answers. Come to Zoo Troop, where children can let their imagination run wild!

New skills and experiences are learned in each 4-week Zoo Troop series. Newcomers are welcome to sign up for each new series.

Please note: The Zoo cannot prorate Zoo Troop fees and gift certificates will not be issued for missed classes. Full refunds will be issued only if the Zoo is given at least two weeks' notice. Otherwise, participants who withdraw from Zoo Troop will receive a gift certificate which never expires and may be used for any Zoo camps or classes.

Can you crawl like a Very Hungry Caterpillar? Do you want to join in on a Barnyard Dance? Have you ever asked, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" This series will explore nature and movement through the eyes of authors such as Eric Carle and Sandra Boynton, and through hands-on activites and animal encounters, get our Zoo Troopers moving and exploring our world like the animals in our featured books.

Steps
1. Use our bodies and senses to explore nature.
2. Identify animals we see in books and make connections to Zoo animals.
3. Work on fine and gross motor skills through program activities.
4. Develop senses of wonder and curiosity about our world and friends.

Purpose
When I have finished this series, I will have discovered that I can use my body and senses to explore my world like animals do!

Pre-K: Stories In Motion

Dramatic play, meeting animals in the classroom, and an exploratory hike through the Zoo will help bring these and other books to life and encourage observation, imagination, and exploration in nature.

Steps
1. Discover how we can move and act like the animals in our stories.
2. Use observation to find differences and similarities between the appearance and actions of real animals and the ones in books.
3. Use our bodies and brains to explore our surroundings.
4. Develop friendships and learn to share our space with aniamls and classmates.

Purpose
When I have finished this Zoo Troop adventure, I will have had FUN playing and discovering the way that animals at the Zoo and in books interact with each other and their world.

FNH - How The Guinea Fowl Got Its Spots

Traditional storytelling is ingrained in many cultures. Come sit by the light from our Twiga campfire and make s'mores, hear traditional African folktales by firelight, meet some of our education anbassador animals, then embark on a guided evening hike in the Zoo after the crowds have gone home. We'll end the evening by honing our own storytelling skills and creatting a folktale about one of the animals that we met along the way.
