Explore the Zoo, experience nature, and discover the excitement and wonder of animals! Hikes in the Zoo, visits from Animal Friends, crafts, train rides, animal shows, and so much more make Summer Camp a jam packed week to remember!

Please register children according to the grade they will enter in the fall.

Full Day Camps: 9:00am-4:00pm. Please pack a lunch. Topic is the same each week.

During this week-long adventure, campers will discover animal leaders of all kinds, from keystone species to alpha males and females! What do boomer balls, spices, and fish-sicles all have in common? They are different forms of animal enrichment! Enrichment provides stimulation to our Zoo animals keeping their minds and bodies healthy. Animal enrichment provides stimulation to our Zoo animals and serves as an important tool that keeps their minds and bodies healthy. In this camp, we will learn about the different forms of animal enrichment, who and what they are good for, and the role of the Zoo's enrichment committee in all of this through animal encounters, keeper interactions, games, and other activities. We will even get a chance to participate in the creation of some animal enrichment items and brainstorm some new enrichment ideas to present to the enrichment committee.

This full day camp is for children entering 5th or 6th grade in the fall.

5th-6th Grade: Nature Navigators

What's that tree? That bird? That insect? Who made that nest? That call? That...scat? What wildlife, big and small, can be found in my own backyard and how can I be their habitat hero? This camp will explore the tools, behaviors, and knowledge it takes to be a naturalist. Through hikes, animals encounters, and hands-on investigations at the Zoo, participants will learn the skills they need to explore the wilds of their own backyard, schoolyard, and beyond while becoming stellar stewards for the wildlife that lives there.

5th-6th Grade: Operation Conservation

This program will explore the ins and outs of wildlife conservation. Through animal encounters, hikes, and other activities, we'll learn about real-life conservation efforts taking place at the Zoo, some of the tools researchers use to keep track of wild populations of species, and what we can do to help the wildlife in our own backyard.

This half day camp is for children entering the 5th or 6th grade in the fall.

7th-8th Grade: Working With Wildlife

Animal keepers, field researchers, animal trainers...the list goes on and on when it comes to jobs that work with wildlife. We'll meet some people who work with wildlife, some of the critters they work with, and tour some behind-the-scenes areas that help them do their job. This is a hands-on class, so be prepared to get knee or elbow-deep in exploration of some of the jobs and tools of the trade that come with a wildlife-related career! Participants will even get the opportunity to write and record animal-related podcasts that might be selected to be on the Zoo's website!

This full day camp is for children entering 7th or 8th grade in the fall.

ZOO TROOP
Learning and growing is fun at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden! These 4 week series encourages the development of important skills and values that will allow your child to interact with peers while fostering knowledge and respect for wildlife and wild places. Through age appropriate, skill and wonder-building hands-on activities, close encounters with animals, Zoo hikes, and child-led projects, children learn biological concepts and become curious to explore the world around them and find their own answers. Come to Zoo Troop, where children can let their imagination run wild!

New skills and experiences are learned in each 4-week Zoo Troop series. Newcomers are welcome to sign up for each new series.

Please note: The Zoo cannot prorate Zoo Troop fees and gift certificates will not be issued for missed classes. Full refunds will be issued only if the Zoo is given at least two weeks' notice. Otherwise, participants who withdraw from Zoo Troop will receive a gift certificate which never expires and may be used for any Zoo camps or classes.

Tracks, scat, skulls, nests, scratch marks, calls, scent marks, and more. Animals are not always easy to see, and sometimes neither is the evidence they leave behind. With different investigations focusing on the different ways leave clues, we'll work on honing our own observational skills and learn how to use those clues to identify the animals they belong to, even when we cannot spy them.

During thie 4-week series, we will focus on using inquiry and participatory learning to observe, ask questions, and uncover some cool informatino about our native wildlife. After we have practices and honed our inquiry skills, this class will culminate in participants engaging with Zoo visitors to collect research on a question of their own design.

Steps
1. Learn about how a naturalist makes observations.
2. Hone our skills at creating comparative questions about the animals we are observing.
3. Learn more about how native wildlife behave and and interact with their habitat.

The science of matchmaking when it comes to rhinos is tricky and complicated. Luckily, the Zoo is home to amazing animal care and captive breeding research teams that help turn this daunting task into success both here and at other institutions. What do penguins and Olympic swimmers have in common? They both need to log a certain amount of time in the "pool" to stay in top shape. Using telemetry and wing bands, Dr. Katie Kalafut and animal caretaker Rickey Kinley have embarked on a research product to study the amount of time the Zoo's penguins spend in the water and how this impacts their foot health.
